How Uncomfortable Are You Willing to Get

Are you starting a business or setting yourself a goal to do something new?

Are you going to treat it like a new years resolution or are you committed to it?

Most people say they want something but they give up really easily…Why is that?

Well the reason is really simple:
While we say that we want something….what we are really thinking is I’ll give this a go for a while and if it works then I’ll do it.

Does that sound insane to anyone else? I’m not pointing fingers at anyone here with that statement because I have done this too.

The idea that I’ll do a little work and see if it becomes massively successful and then i’ll do more work just seems completely backward now. We’ve all heard of overnight successes in the music industry or an actor who nobody knew yesterday is suddenly on every paper this morning.

Do you think that they really became an overnight success by luck…..that somebody spotted their talent and made them a  superstar overnight?

What we don’t see with the people who are at the top of their game is the 10 or 15 or even longer in some case of years of work to get to that point where when they have that breakthrough that they can enjoy it a bit more but that only comes after the years of work before.

Do you think any of these people who have put in 15 years of work in a specific industry or doing a specific job and are now earning millions….did it by luck? No chance.

They see the long term gains and that they will get there if they keep at it.

I personally think that the first few months are the crucial parts when starting out doing something new. The reason for this is that you become uncomfortable because you have never done it before and this isn’t where we want to stay.

When I started out online building my business, I remember being so frustrated on so many different occasions because things weren’t going as I had planned and it is difficult to keep doing the work with when setback after setback keep coming up.

I also realised that after a certain amount of time, it gets easier. What I mean by that is that I became more certain that this will work so it meant that everytime something did not go to plan that I looked at it differently.

That didn’t work….How else can I do it?

If you can get past that initial stumbling block of wanting to run because it is uncomfortable…your chances of success get bigger and bigger because the longer you stay with it…..the more the competition gives up so that when you do get to have your business running well…there are fewer people there so you can make more money.

Stick with it. Do the work and know that it will pay off. (That advice is for me too. )

Pushing the Boundaries – Liam Kearney

Pushing the boundaries can be a scary thing from my experience.

Not scary as in terrifying but scary as in uncomfortable.

Knowing what I have to do and doing it are two different things but I am starting to see that it is tremendously satisfying every time that I do something that I know I need to do but don’t really want to do.

When I want to do something new something generally crops up to make me ask myself if I really want to do this.

Some of my more recent examples are around the Landmark Forum advanced course and signing up for an ultra marathon.

The Landmark Forum Advanced Course:

I did the landmark forum at the end of February this year and found it mind blowing in the good sense. I absolutely loved it and am thoroughly enjoying the seminar series for the last 9-10 weeks.

I had signed up to do the advanced course in Dublin in September and was really looking forward to it but lately I had been getting quite frustrated as I wanted to do it sooner than that. I knew that it was on in London in June and had been looking in to it to see if I could change to do it then.

There was no problem with transferring to the course next month but immediately I started coming up with all these excuses and reasons for why I should not do it.

  • It will be more expensive
  • I can’t really afford it
  • It’s a waste of money
  • I’d have to pay for flights
  • I’d have to get time off work
  • I’d be using holiday time for a course
  • I’d be putting out friends by asking to stay with them or it will cost more for accomodation

All of these things came up.

The other thing around my fitness was that I did not have a goal and had not signed up or committed to anything so therefore I was not very enthusiastic about training for anything.

So Saturday came around and I decided that I needed to commit to these things to actually make progress towards what I want to do but I was still uncomfortable around it.

So what happened?

Well I just signed up for them anyway. I am doing the Longford Ultra Marathon in August on the 24th and I am flying to London on the 19th June for the Landmark Advanced course.

When I push the boundaries, I do not enjoy it at the time but I do realise that it is necessary to get me where I want to go.

You get to choose whether you listen to those doubts or whether you just take action anyway.

I’m really looking forward to the Landmark advanced course and the ultra marathon.

It’s time to start some traianing.

Still Struggling for Perfection

Have you got something big that you wanted to do in your life?

Why have you not done it yet?

I’m sure there are many reasons but one of the bigger reasons that I think that people do not accomplish as much as they want is that they fail to ship the idea or product.

What the heck does ‘fail to ship’ mean?

That’s a good question. When you have a product that you think is great and you don’t meet the deadline and you don’t actually send the product to your suppliers or customers that is failing to ship the product. So i’m using it here to mean that you don’t do what you said you would do. You want to write the book but you never start or you start and you are waiting for some day in the future that you will be ready and it will be perfect. Striving for perfection is the ultimate failure to ship.

How do I ship my idea?

It all begins with writing something down…….your deadline! If you don’t have a deadline then you will never do anything with it. The moment you actually write something down and commit to it, the idea changes in your head. When you commit to a deadline and tell other people about it, even more changes. You will be afraid of looking bad in front of them so you will make sure that the work is done. The moment you come up with a deadline, you immediately start to ask ‘how can I do this?’ which is massive because at that moment you are making progress. You have gone from I can never do this to – how can I get there?

Ask for help!

When you start out, you won’t know how to do everything so get used to the idea of asking for help. Every time you want to do something and want to accomplish it fast, you need to ask for help from people who have done that thing. Ask your friends, get a few of them around the table and ask them to help you come up with ideas…you will be amazed with what you come up with by doing that. Ask for help from everyone, you will be blown away by how many people want you to succeed and will help you to get there.

Do it as often as you can!

The first day you try this, it will be uncomfortable and you will want to run away from it. The more often you do it, the easier it gets and the better and more efficient you get at it. It also does something to your confidence and self esteem. Every time you get something done and ship it, you feel a sense of accomplishment and you want to do it more. It is the ultimate high and will help you to get where you want faster than you ever thought you could.

The idea of perfection versus the reality

Perfection as an idea is wonderful but in my opinion, completely not do-able. Any time you create something, do something and accomplish something, you will always see better and more efficient ways of doing it and improvements that you can make to it. That is the beauty of life. The more you do something, the better that you get at it and the more focused you become in relation to that field. On the other side, if you constantly wait for something to be perfect before you show it to the world, the world will never see it.

Do you want all that work to be a waste?

What ever your idea is, that big dream, that little thing. Don’t let that go to waste and don’t put all that effort in to it and never use it, That would be a waste and a the rest of us will not get to see it. I want to see your work. Get it out there today.

Create the habit. Ship it today and you won’t believe how far you will have gone in 6 months.

Liam Kearneys mind blowing experience at the landmark forum

How Did the Landmark Forum Go

Wow….well what can I say really…Mind blowing!

It was an unbelievable weekend and I loved it!

I didn’t know what to expect and I can’t explain it now. If you get a chance to go…take it….your life will never be the same again!

I went in to a room full of strangers on Friday and have spent 39 hours with everyone over 3 days and I would not change it for all the tea in China.

A few years ago, life had lost it gloss and I was unhappy. I was working 24 hours a day and completely exhausted and had no idea what was wrong.

There was no meaning…I was just chasing the next thing and when I got it I was like a kid with a new toy…..really excited for all of 5 minutes and then bored and looking for something else.

I knew there was something missing and I have been looking for ‘it’ for quite a while.

Something really special happens when you put a group of people together that are all looking for the same thing. It’s hard to explain but it is magical.

I see things in a new light now and will not be able to go back to the way things were before even if I wanted to.

If you get a chance to go on one….check it out!

Thanks Gale, you are a superstar!

Liam Kearneys Blog about why you should stop worrying about when you will get there and just concentrate on doing the work and trust that you will get there

Are You Worrying About When It Will Arrive

So you are new to internet marketing and you are excited cos you are going to make 10k per month

Then you do some work and nothing happens and you start to get frustrated

Now what do you do????

This is the point where most people will get overwhelmed and want to give up and want to know how fast they can make a return on their money.

The honest answer is ‘it depends on  you’.

That’s a crap answer if you were looking for a specific day isn’t it.

The truth is that you will get out what you put in.

Most people will come in and do a bit in one area and then do a bit in another area and won’t make any money because they do not commit to the process of learning a new skill set and putting that into practice everyday.

I don’t say this pointing fingers at anyone because I went through that phase of unrealistic expectations too but I didn’t give up.

The more you worry about the goal and when it is coming, the more you are distracted from doing the work that will get you there.

It’s like going to the gym, You don’t expect to lift really heavy weight straight away. You understand that you will get stronger over time and eventually reach your goal.

Internet marketing is the exact same but because so much of the marketing is rags to riches and fast cars then it brings in alot of people with those sorts of expectations which means that they will get a rude awakening at some point because it just does not work like that.

Look at anything in your life that you are really good at now, sports or career or anything. Did you just have  a go at it and realise that you were one of the best in the world straight away….I didn’t think so.

If you want to get good then you need to understand it is the same as anything else. You need to plant the seeds and then look after them and then wait until the season comes around to harvest.

Don’t try to hurry the process because you can’t and you will get really pissed off and frustrated.

Stop worrying about the when and just know that if you are willing to do the work then it will come together for you.

Do something today that scares you blog by liam kearney

Are You Scared

If you are not then you are probably not pushing yourself

I used to think that the idea was to get to a point where you are very comfortable doing whatever it is that you do

Boy was I wrong. If you are not working towards something that scares you then you are stuck in your comfort zone.

I’m a bit scared about the event I am attending this weekend but then again that is why I am attending it

Now I’m not necessarily talking mega scared but doing something that you are unsure of and a bit afraid of is healthy and will help you to grow massively.

The growth is the key.

I always thought it was the stuff that you got but now I realise that it is actually what happens to you on the journey to achieving those goals that is the best part.

You have to learn about yourself and grow and do things that you never thought were possible in order to obtain those things that you have never had before.

I never knew that every time you go on a course or try out something new or make mistakes that you grow as a person, I had just chalked it up to experience.

Start today with something that scares you and you won’t even recognise yourself in 6 months never mind a few years down the road.

Liam Kearney Blog about setting expectations based on where you want to go instead of based on where you are

What Are You Doing to Figure It Out

Last night I had a really good reminder about not having excuses and just focus on getting things done.

My dad had something about his website that he wanted to install on it and he rang me and the he said he would have another look at it himself.

A little while later I got a text saying it was all sorted.

This was an inspirational reminder to me to commit to figuring things out. If there is something I want to do then I start it today and keep going until I get there.

So many people use excuses and beliefs that they have about themselves so that they don’t have to step out of the comfort zone. I do it at times with certain things but as long as you are willing to commit to the goal then you will get there and figure it out as you go along.

This is one of the reasons that I love the internet marketing business, there are so many people from so many different backgrounds willing to learn it and get to where they want to go.

Liam Kearney Blog article talking about why you should build in a habit of enjoying downtime and avoiding burnout

What Have You Done to Appreciate Yourself Lately

Have you done anything to appreciate yourself lately?

For most people the answer will be no.

Pure time for yourself, not for someone else or because you felt you should. Actual guilt free time doing something you enjoy??? If you are still not sure…the answer is no.

I definitely did not grow up with the habit of doing something for myself and rewarding myself.

It takes a while to realise that you may not be your own best friend and that is a strange thing to figure out. Why would you not want to set yourself up as best you can to get the most out of your life?

Probably because nobody told you to and there are too many people telling you to not stand out or be different. Just keep your head down and do what everyone else is doing.

Sounds like a great recipe for making yourself unhappy doesn’t it. Maybe it’s time to build in some holidays and some down time and actually spend time doing things that you enjoy,

If you don’t then you will hit burn out at some stage and it won’t be pretty.

Start to take time for yourself today, start small and try to have at least one day off a week.

Liam Kearney Blog about the difference in outcomes between doing what you need and what you want

Liam Kearney Are You Doing What You Need to Do

Do you make it a habit of doing what you need to do?

Or do you just do what you want to do most of the time?

Most people will do what they want to do.

Just don’t expect us to believe that you are doing everything you can if you are only doing what you want to do….cos you are giving in to doing the easy thing.

Are you good at busy work or do you make a habit of doing what actually ‘needs’ to be done?

Just don’t expect things to change if you continue to do the things that you have done up until now because they won’t.

If you want different results than you have been getting then you are going to have to start doing things that are different than you have done before.

Make a habit of doing the things that need to be done and your life will change in ways that you could never have imagined.

You can apply this in any area of your life and make massive changes. I lost over two stone last year in a little over a month and have never put it back on. I made a habit of doing the things that needed to be done and have stuck to it since.

Before that I actually believed that I was doing everything that I could but I wasn’t. I was doing everything that I wanted to do but was not really committed and was not doing what I knew needed to be done.

What made the difference….commitment, awareness and making it a necessity and taking it one day at a time. Not really that difficult when you try it. Most people never will,

Create that habit today.

Liam Kearney Blog about how your work ethic will effect what you get from life

Do You Have a Bad Work Ethic

Some people spend so much time looking for the one thing that will make the difference….

The one silver bullet that will make you successful…

Do you want to know what it is…..A really high work ethic. That will change your life.

Ask anybody is who is doing really well for themselves in any career and they will have worked harder than anyone else. They will tell you that what you put in is what you get out.

This is the truth…for everyone who is out there and expect things to happen overnight for themselves…..they may happen overnight after you have spend time learning and trying new things and working hard at that goal over a period of time.

There is no such thing as an overnight success. When we have an overnight success, it only appears that way. We don’t see the 5 or 10 years that the music artist has spent gigging in small places, events and parties. All we hear is the hype around it.

We look at someone who is at the top of their game and wish that we are there now but most people will not want to put in the work to get there. Someone who is standing on stage in front of a packed out room of people who have payed to hear them speak, has probably spent years travelling the country speaking to people for free just so they can get better at it and hone their craft.

Are you willing to put in that sort of work for 5 years so that you can live the life of your dreams after that?
