Still Struggling for Perfection

Have you got something big that you wanted to do in your life?

Why have you not done it yet?

I’m sure there are many reasons but one of the bigger reasons that I think that people do not accomplish as much as they want is that they fail to ship the idea or product.

What the heck does ‘fail to ship’ mean?

That’s a good question. When you have a product that you think is great and you don’t meet the deadline and you don’t actually send the product to your suppliers or customers that is failing to ship the product. So i’m using it here to mean that you don’t do what you said you would do. You want to write the book but you never start or you start and you are waiting for some day in the future that you will be ready and it will be perfect. Striving for perfection is the ultimate failure to ship.

How do I ship my idea?

It all begins with writing something down…….your deadline! If you don’t have a deadline then you will never do anything with it. The moment you actually write something down and commit to it, the idea changes in your head. When you commit to a deadline and tell other people about it, even more changes. You will be afraid of looking bad in front of them so you will make sure that the work is done. The moment you come up with a deadline, you immediately start to ask ‘how can I do this?’ which is massive because at that moment you are making progress. You have gone from I can never do this to – how can I get there?

Ask for help!

When you start out, you won’t know how to do everything so get used to the idea of asking for help. Every time you want to do something and want to accomplish it fast, you need to ask for help from people who have done that thing. Ask your friends, get a few of them around the table and ask them to help you come up with ideas…you will be amazed with what you come up with by doing that. Ask for help from everyone, you will be blown away by how many people want you to succeed and will help you to get there.

Do it as often as you can!

The first day you try this, it will be uncomfortable and you will want to run away from it. The more often you do it, the easier it gets and the better and more efficient you get at it. It also does something to your confidence and self esteem. Every time you get something done and ship it, you feel a sense of accomplishment and you want to do it more. It is the ultimate high and will help you to get where you want faster than you ever thought you could.

The idea of perfection versus the reality

Perfection as an idea is wonderful but in my opinion, completely not do-able. Any time you create something, do something and accomplish something, you will always see better and more efficient ways of doing it and improvements that you can make to it. That is the beauty of life. The more you do something, the better that you get at it and the more focused you become in relation to that field. On the other side, if you constantly wait for something to be perfect before you show it to the world, the world will never see it.

Do you want all that work to be a waste?

What ever your idea is, that big dream, that little thing. Don’t let that go to waste and don’t put all that effort in to it and never use it, That would be a waste and a the rest of us will not get to see it. I want to see your work. Get it out there today.

Create the habit. Ship it today and you won’t believe how far you will have gone in 6 months.
