What is affiliate marketing?

Anytime I say I am an affiliate marketer, people ask what is an Affiliate Marketer?….

1. to bring into close association or connection: The research center is affiliated with the university.
2. to attach or unite on terms of fellowship; associate (usually followed by with  in U.S. usage, by to  inBrit. usage): to affiliate with the church.
3. to trace the descent, derivation, or origin of: to affiliate a language.
4. to adopt.
5. Law. to fix the paternity of, as an illegitimate child: The mother affiliated her child upon John Doe.

For me definition 2 is a good definition for this purpose…’to attach or unite on terms of fellowship’ or to ‘associate’.

Definition:

Affiliate marketing means marketing/selling/promoting products or services that you are associated with.

Benefits:

The great thing about affiliate marketing is that you don’t have to re-invent the wheel. You find a product that you think is really good and you become an affiliate. This means that you promote the product/service and every time somebody buys it through your link, you get paid a percentage of the price.

The person who owns the product or provides the service gets payed and he pays you a percentage of this for helping to sell the product/service.
