Learn From Your Bad Ads

Facebook Ad tipsFacebook ads:

How I went from really excited to really dissappointed with my first facebook ads in days….

I have spent the last week or two trying to figure out how to create the perfect Facebook(FB) ad.

WHAT I DID:

  1. I logged in to my FB account and created a new ad. I was really excited that I had created this new ad.
  2. I went back the following day to check on my stats and realized that I had put up the wrong landing page for the ad and it wasn’t connected to my email list.
  3. I took the ad down and changed the link and then put it back up again and figured the email addresses will start pouring in.
  4. So I watched the Ad for the next two days and saw that the Ad wasn’t generating any leads.
  5. I thought that I was doing something wrong so I took the ad down again.

WHAT I REALIZED:

  1. When you are paying for an ad to be displayed and it isn’t generating any money, you learn pretty quickly to take down the ads that aren’t working.
  2. The other side of this is that when you take an ad down you must remember that if you don’t have any advertising then you won’t make any money.
  3. I created two similar ads to the original one on FB. Then I set them running and within two days I could see that they both were not getting a high click through rate but I could see that one was working much better than the other.
  4. My first thought was that these ads are bad ads because the CTR(click through rate) was very low so I should take them down.
  5. I left them up for a few more days and then decided I would change the picture or the text or the headline and see which ones were working better.
  6. I have found that with any situation you can decide it is no good and stop doing it or you can work harder at it and learn more so that you can do it better.

This is the same principle with FaceBook ads. If the ads are getting clicks, change certain aspects of the Ad and figure out what you can do to make the Ad more efficient.

This is where we realize that what we thought was a bad ad is actually a good ad.

It teaches you to keep working and figure out how you can improve.

If the first ad you place is really successful, that is great but you need to understand why. If you can understand why then it is worthwhile because then you can do it again with different ads.

Recommendations:

  • Make your first Ad and the when it is done, click on create similar ad.
  • This will allow you to change the headline or the picture or the text and run both ads together for a few days and you can see which one is working better and you can then take the less productive ad down.
  • This process over time will enable you to become a better marketer
